Verlaque Fine Foods is based in Cape Town, South Africa, at the confluence of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans and, we like to believe, at the crossroads of World Foods.
The southern hemisphere’s natural rendezvous of Eastern and Western cultures, enriched by the ancient heritage of the African continent, Cape Town is the centre of the world!
Verlaque Condiments reflect this rich heritage; wild fruits (marula) and flora (birdseye chili, rooibos & fynbos honey) from

Southern Africa, tropical fruits from Northern, Central and Southern Africa (mangoes, figs, passion fruit & pomegranate), spices from the East (star anise, cinnamon, ginger, Szechuan peppercorn and clove), berries from Europe and the Americas (cranberry, raspberry & redcurrant), all cooked with fine vinegars (an art, some say, originating in ancient Egypt as early as 3000 BC).
Blended with aged balsamic vinegar from Modena, Italy and fine grape vinegar from the Western Cape, these dried and fresh fruits are slowly reduced to create versatile condiments that can be used on salads, on steamed and roasted vegetables, as marinades and drizzles, and with desserts and cheeses.
Founder and creative force behind Verlaque Fine Foods, Adrienne Verlaque-Napper is herself the product of a rich and diverse cultural heritage.
Born in Nairobi, Kenya of a Boer/Brit mother and a French/Seychellois father, Adrienne’s earliest memories are of food; oysters and Tabasco at the Sinbad Hotel on the beach at Malindi (age 3!), hunting with her father, Lew, |
for the perfect samoosa in the markets of Nairobi and, later, in District Six, Cape Town.
In her twenties, Adrienne worked front-of-house at award-winning restaurants in London, Cape Town and Johannesburg - learning skills she would later use in her own catering business, Tri-Lingus (2001-2005).
The inspiration to start her own food manufacturing business came after a four-year stay in Franschhoek, the gourmet capital of South Africa. It was here she befriended "real foodies", women and men who know their food, love to cook, eat and drink and who live the Verlaque motto, "Life is for tasting". |
